Hundreds gather to share their commitment for a 100% Renewable Future

Stand with Paris for 100% Renewable Energy

We did it ! What you see above came together as the clouds cleared after weeks of hardship. This coming together was a miracle. It reflects the culmination of a powerful artistic ritual that sent strong ripples through out the world at a critical time in history. This took place in Paris on December 6th with the aim of supporting a positive outcome at the COP 21 climate negotiations.

Let’s make the world work for 100% of humanity in the shortest time possible through spontaneous cooperation without ecological offense or disadvantage to anyone.

– R. Buckminster Fuller

Bucky Fuller’s prayer for humanity was deeply felt, shared and sent into the world on that day as 325 people of all ages and cultures united between the Peace Wall and the Military College.

After witnessing the terror attacks from a few blocks away, my commitment to express and spread this positive signal to the world deepened tremendously. My soul was shaken and on fire, mirroring the inner state of thousands of change-makers who descended in Paris during the COP 21 climate talks.

Up until the last 48 hours, our action was hanging in jeopardy. More about the back story here. Although all public demonstrations had been canceled, we persisted to build trust with the police authorities until they gave us the green light. As the Dalai Lama says: “Never give up.” We didn’t. I celebrate the collective power and positive determination of all of those who remained committed; choosing love, solidarity and ingenuity in the wake of a complex and alarming time.

Ultimately, a treaty was signed by 195 countries, aiming at lowering emission towards 1.5 degrees celsius. Although the treaty is not legally binding, it is leading us in the right direction.

Women Leaders and Indigenous offered their wisdom

What you don’t see in the aerial art image are the five inspiring woman climate leaders from different continents who shared their inspiring view on solutions to climate change. They were accompanied by prayers offered by indigenous wisdom keepers. All participants joined holding hands and laying down on the cold ground, sending a unifying message of freedom and calling for 100% renewable energy. The unfolding felt like a miracle, kicking off the last week of the climate talks on a strong and positive tone.

The image went viral and seeded a new level of aspiration!

Celebrating the fact that the 100% Renewable aerial art image that we catalyzed has been prominently featured in hundreds of newspapers and blogs worldwide including the NYTimes. It’s now become one of the iconic COP21 images, inspiring cities worldwide to get off fossil fuel. Additionally, the video Greenpeace made about the action was viewed by 1.8 million people 48 hours after its release!

The back story

Knowing that 90% of public demonstrations were banned and that we received authorities’ approval less than 48 hours before the event, bringing the aerial art to completion in a strong way felt like a real victory. Read this article to discover the back story behind the creative action.
